Let’s Sprout recently had the opportunity to facilitate a Girl Guides group in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia! One of our core team members, Siobhan, has fond memories of being in Sparks and Brownies so this opportunity was a dream come true. What was even more exciting was that we were invited by one of the youth from our SuperNova ITS for Girls workshops. To positively impact youth so much that they want to spend more time in our workshops is what we strive for with all of our programming.
The evening started off with the usual troop meeting routines but quickly transitioned to silly nature freeze dance, and deep conversations about what girlhood means (hint: it means whatever you want it to!). We talked about the importance of nature in our lives, had lots of giggles, and ended the night planting seeds to take home.
Part of the magic of facilitating Let’s Sprout workshops is that we get to witness our participants offer up their wisdom, explore their own ideas, and grow together throughout the activities. We are always grateful to the youth we spend time with for what we learn from them. We also always have at least two facilitators at our workshops so that participants can see the dynamic between the Let’s Sprout staff. We think this also starts planting seeds about what healthy female friendships can look like. As a team, it was so nice to see all the girls helping each other, communicating their needs, and letting each other have their own space to grow.
We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to facilitate for this Girl Guides group and we cannot wait until our next workshop! To all the lovely participants, we want to thank you for sharing your magic and we hope to see you again!
